Background and Establishment

The unity university (TUU) was established in 2020 in response to the growing demand for quality, innovative, and industry-relevant higher education in Somaliland and Africa as a whole. The University was founded by a group of distinguished academics, business leaders, and development experts who shared a common vision: to create a transformative institution that would produce ethical leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals capable of reshaping Africa’s future.

The idea for TUU was conceived in 2022 during a strategic education meeting where stakeholders expressed concern about the widening gap between university education and practical societal needs. After extensive feasibility studies, consultations, and accreditation processes, the University received its operational license in 2022 and officially commenced academic activities in the 2022/2023 academic year.

Founding Vision

The founders envisioned a university that would:

• Deliver globally competitive education with African relevance.
• Promote research-driven solutions to local and continental challenges.
• Encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership development.
• Uphold integrity, excellence, and service to humanity.

The motto, “What Begins Here Transforms Africa,” reflects the institution’s commitment to nurturing ideas, talents, and innovations that will create lasting impact across the continent.

Early Development Phase

In its first year, TUU began with three pioneer faculties:

1. Faculty of Business and Management
2. Faculty of Computing and Information Technology
3. Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The University admitted its first cohort of 320 undergraduate students and 45 postgraduate students. Academic programs were designed in collaboration with industry professionals to ensure practical relevance and employability.

The campus was strategically located to provide accessibility, security, and room for expansion. Modern lecture halls, digital libraries, innovation hubs, and hostels were constructed to meet international standards.
